Visit the best-preserved Arab baths in Europe with this Arab Baths and Villardompardo Palace Tour. Discover the washing ritual used during the Andalusian period.
Arab Baths and Villardompardo Palace Tour
We'll meet at the Arab Baths Cultural Centre to begin a tour of the Villardompardo Palace, a 16th century Renaissance building under which the Baths are located.
The guided tour will start at the Palace, residence of the First Count of Villardompardo and Viceroy of Peru, Fernando de Torres and Portugal. The Palace, built in the 16th century, is located in the historic centre of Jaen and has served various purposes under different owners.
We'll visit the two museums currently housed within it: the Museum of Popular Arts and Customs, showcasing the crafts lost throughout the city's history, and the Naïf Art Museum, which is unique in Spain.
Next, we will explore the largest Arab Baths in Europe, covering an area of 450 square meters and dating back to 1002. These baths demonstrate the washing rituals of the Muslim population and include four traditional bathing rooms.
Following approximately an hour and a half of guided exploration, the tour will conclude at the Terrace-Viewpoint, offering excellent views of the city.
