On this 3-day hiking tour around Pico Duarte, starting from Jarabacoa, participants will climb the highest mountain in the Antilles.
Description
Day 1
At the scheduled time, pickup will occur at the campground on Calle de la Piña to head towards the Cordillera Central. The first stop is at the Manabao swamp to commence the initial 4-kilometre (2.5 miles) hiking stage through the jungle. A midway break will be taken before concluding the first day at La Compartición, located at approximately 2450 metres (8000 feet) above sea level.
Day 2
The second day's itinerary begins with breakfast followed by the ascent towards Pico Duarte via a 13-kilometre (8 miles) trail. Multiple breaks will be provided to enjoy the surrounding pine, ebony, and mahogany forests. The hike culminates at the summit, at 3087 metres (10,127 feet), offering panoramic views. Participants will then return to the encampment for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3
Following breakfast, the return hike to the Manabao swamp occurs, where a picnic-style lunch will be served. The group will then travel back to the meeting point in Jarabacoa, expected to arrive in the late afternoon.
Accommodation and Food
This hiking tour features 2 nights of accommodation at a mountain encampment near Pico Duarte. Participants will have 2 breakfasts, 3 lunches, and 2 dinners provided in nature, including picnic-style meals.
