3-Day Hiking Tour to Pico Duarte

Embark on a fascinating 3-day trekking adventure around Pico Duarte, beginning your journey in Jarabacoa as you ascend the tallest peak in the Antilles. Prepare to be captivated by the breathtaking scenery!

Description

Day 1



We will meet at the scheduled time for your pickup from the campground on Calle de la Piña before heading towards the majestic Cordillera Central. Nestled between the José Armando Bermúdez National Park and the José Carmen Ramírez National Park, the remarkable Pico Duarte beckons us.



Your trip will begin at the Manabao swamp, where the first segment of our hiking trek will commence. This initial path covers approximately 4 kilometres (2.5 miles) through vibrant, dense jungle.



We will pause halfway through the hike in the heart of the jungle to recharge before we proceed. The first day's adventure culminates at La Compartición, a mountain camp located at an elevation of roughly 2450 metres (8000 feet) above sea level.

Day 2



Following a nourishing breakfast at the camp, we will begin our ascent to Pico Duarte. This path spans about 13 kilometres (8 miles), and we will make several stops along the way to refuel and appreciate the beauty of the pine, ebony, and mahogany forests.



The exertion will undoubtedly be rewarding as we reach the summit of Pico Duarte, reaching an impressive height of 3087 metres (10,127 feet). This accomplishment not only grants us a sense of achievement but also access to some of the most stunning panoramic views imaginable.



After taking in the sights from the peak, we will descend to the encampment for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 3



After a hearty breakfast at the camp, we will trek back to the Manabao swamp. In this scenic spot, we can enjoy a delightful picnic lunch before making our way back to the meeting point in Jarabacoa. We anticipate returning in the late afternoon.

Accommodation and Food



This hiking experience encompasses 2 nights of lodging at a mountain encampment nestled near Pico Duarte.



Participants will savor 2 breakfasts, 3 lunches, and 2 dinners that provide an opportunity to dine amidst nature, featuring picnic-style refreshments.
