On this 3-day hiking tour around Pico Duarte, you'll start from Jarabacoa and climb the highest mountain in the Antilles.
Description
Day 1
We'll pick you up from the campground on Calle de la Piña and proceed to the Cordillera Central in the Dominican Republic. Our driver will drop us off at the Manabao swamp, where we'll begin the first stage of our hiking route of about 4 kilometres (2.5 miles) through the jungle. We'll stop midway to regain strength. The day ends at La Compartición, an encampment at 2450 metres (8000 feet) above sea level.
Day 2
After breakfast at camp, we'll start the ascent towards Pico Duarte via a trail around 13 kilometres (8 miles). We will take breaks for food and to enjoy the view of the pine, ebony, and mahogany forests. We will reach the summit at 3087 metres (10,127 feet), enjoying panoramic views before returning to the encampment for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3
After breakfast, we'll hike back to the Manabao swamp, where we will have a picnic-style lunch before making our journey back to the meeting point in Jarabacoa, expected to arrive in the late afternoon.
