Discover Jerez de la Frontera's incredible Islamic heritage: visit two of the city's most emblematic monuments, the Alcazar and the Cathedral.
Jerez Alcazar & Cathedral Guided Tour Itinerary
After meeting at the indicated time in Plaza del Arenal, Jerez de la Frontera's main square, we'll begin our walking tour of the city's historic buildings and monuments.
We will stroll through Alameda Vieja Park before arriving at the Alcazar of Jerez, one of the best examples of Almohad architecture in the Iberian Peninsula. This former Arab palace fortress is the oldest monument in the city.
We'll pass through the City Gate to enter the Alcazar complex. Here, we will explore the Patio de Armas, the gardens, the Arab baths, the pharmacy, and the impressive Villavicencio Palace, a baroque structure built on the remains of an earlier Islamic palace.
Next, we will head to Encarnacion Square, where the Cathedral is located. Inside the cathedral, we'll see its unique blend of Gothic, Baroque, and Neoclassical architectural styles. We will visit the cathedral museum and the sacristies, where we can view the notable La Virgen Niña en oración by Francisco de Zurbarán.
Our tour will conclude in Plaza de la Encarnación after two hours of exploration.
