In this whale-watching activity in Kailua-Kona, we'll see the koholas, known as the guardians of the sea for Hawaiians.

Humpback Whale Watching in Kailua-Kona

At the scheduled time, we will meet at the Kuakini Highway Illima Court Shopping Center to start the whale-watching experience on Hawaii Island. We will learn about these cetaceans.

Each year, thousands of humpback whales travel to Hawaii's shores to nurse and care for their calves. During this activity, we will board a boat to cruise along the Kailua-Kona coastline in search of these marine mammals.

We will understand the significance of humpback whales in Hawaiian culture and mythology. They hold a sacred character for locals, regarded as the guardians of the sea. Whales are referred to as koholas, calves as aumakua, and those born in the island's waters as kamaaina.

For 2.5 hours, we will observe humpback whales as they swim, jump, and sing. Additionally, we may spot dolphins, manta rays, and sea turtles.

We will return to the port to conclude the experience.
