At the indicated time, we'll meet at the Kuakini Highway Illima Court Shopping Center to begin this whale-watching experience on Hawaii Island. We'll learn interesting facts about these cetaceans.
Every year, thousands of humpback whales travel to Hawaii to nurse and care for their calves. We will board a boat to sail along the Kailua-Kona coastline and search for these marine mammals.
We'll learn the importance of humpback whales for the culture and mythology of Hawaii. Their presence is considered sacred by locals, who regard them as the guardians of the sea. In Hawaiian, they are known as koholas; the calves are called aumakua, and whales born in the island's waters are termed kamaaina.
For 2.5 hours, we'll watch humpback whales as they swim, jump, and emit their deep songs. We will also look for dolphins, manta rays, and sea turtles.
