Activity Details

We'll pick you up from your hotel in Kandy and take a 2.5-hour journey by minibus to arrive at Kaudulla National Park, one of Sri Lanka's natural gems.

At the entrance, we'll get on a jeep to start the Kaudulla safari. During the three-hour drive, we'll discover the reserve's important ecological value. It's a large environmental space named an IBA (Important Bird and Biodiversity Area), containing 160 species of birds, 24 species of mammals, 25 species of reptiles, and 26 species of fish. Within this impressive variety of animals, you'll encounter birds such as cranes, peacocks, and pelicans, becoming an expert at identifying the diverse types of birds!

We'll stop at a picnic area, so don't forget to pack lunch! In the afternoon, the safari will continue through areas of Kaudulla that are home to a high number of Asian elephants. Although the species is in danger of extinction, Sri Lanka is one of the few countries to preserve a significant herd of this mammal.

During the safari around Kaudulla, we'll also aim to spot other animals such as buffalos and Ceylon deer. The park hosts a large colony of Asian reptiles, many of which are native species to Sri Lanka and some areas of India.

We'll finish the safari at the park entrance, and here we'll take the minibus back to your hotel in Kandy, arriving 10 hours later.

How Does It Work?

This experience includes a robust exploration of Kaudulla National Park with a focus on wildlife photography. After the minibus transport from Kandy, a jeep will be provided for the safari to ensure thorough access to different areas of the park. Expect to spend a total of 10 hours, combining travel time and safari duration. Keep your camera ready to capture the rich biodiversity!
