During your trip to Kenya, visit one of the important port towns on a day trip to Malindi. Uncover the bustling market and its links with Vasco da Gama!

Malindi Day Trip

From Hotel Blue Bay IGV in Watamu, we'll set out directly for Malindi, a port town along the Galana River, the second largest in Kenya.

After a 30-minute drive, we'll reach Malindi, known for being a significant port city. Firstly, we'll visit the Malindi Museum, also known as the House of Columns, which features exhibitions on underwater archaeology and the Mijikenda tribes.

The next stop will be at the pillar honoring the 15th-century Portuguese explorer Vasco da Gama. This monument symbolizes the commercial relationship between Kenya and Portugal. You'll enjoy a view of the Kenyan coast from this location, providing an opportunity for photos.

During the tour, we'll also visit the Portuguese chapel, the first Christian church in East Africa, and explore the city market. The stalls and local products will be a highlight.

Finally, you'll have 30 minutes of free time to further explore the market and sample traditional dishes before we conclude the excursion by returning to Watamu, arriving 3 hours after pickup.
