During your trip to Kenya, visit an important port town on a day trip to Malindi. Discover the bustling market and its links with Vasco da Gama.

Malindi Day Trip

From Hotel Blue Bay IGV in Watamu, we'll set out for Malindi, located along the Galana River, the second largest in Kenya. After a 30-minute drive, we'll arrive at this significant port city. Our first visit will be to the Malindi Museum, also known as the House of Columns, which features exhibitions on underwater archaeology and the Mijikenda tribes.

Next, we'll see the pillar dedicated to the Portuguese explorer Vasco da Gama, erected in the 15th century as a symbol of the commercial relationship between Portugal and Kenya. This location provides an excellent viewpoint of the Kenyan coast, perfect for photos.

We will then visit the Portuguese chapel, the first Christian church in East Africa, and explore the city market, where local products and the community atmosphere can be experienced.

You will have 30 minutes of free time to further explore the market and sample traditional dishes. Finally, we will conclude the excursion with a return to Watamu, arriving three hours after pickup.
