Beautiful gardens, majestic architecture and an incredible collection of art: delve into Denmark's history and cultural heritage on this day trip to Frederiksborg Castle, the largest Renaissance palace in Scandinavia.

Day Trip Details

Meet your guide at Copenhagen Central Station and board a train to Hillerød. The one-hour journey provides views of Zealand. Upon arrival at Hillerød train station, it is a 15-minute walk to Frederiksborg Castle, situated on three islets in Slotssøen (Castle Lake). Your guided tour starts in the castle's landscaped gardens, featuring French-style parterres and mazes, before you enter the castle, now home to the Danish Museum of National History.

The museum's collection includes antique furniture, historical paintings, and royal portraits. Visit the Audience Chamber and the Great Hall to admire tapestries and Baroque interiors. The Frederiksborg Castle Chapel houses a historic altar and one of Europe's oldest organs. You will also see the clocktower and the Neptune fountain, which symbolize Denmark's power in the 17th century. Around 12:30 pm, return to Hillerød train station for the train back to Copenhagen.
