Frederiksborg Castle Day Trip Itinerary
Having met your guide at Copenhagen Central Station, you'll board a train to Hillerød. The journey lasts approximately one hour with views of Zealand, Denmark's largest island.
Upon arrival at Hillerød train station, a 15-minute walk will take you to Frederiksborg Castle, built on three islets on the Slotssøen (Castle Lake). This site holds the title of largest Renaissance castle in Scandinavia.
Your guided tour begins in the castle's landscaped gardens, showcasing French-style parterres and mazes. Proceed inside to the Danish Museum of National History, featuring antique furniture, historical paintings, and royal portraits. Notable highlights include the Audience Chamber? and the Great Hall, along with the Frederiksborg Castle Chapel, which hosts one of Europe's oldest organs.
Take in more architectural details of the castle, including the clocktower and the Neptune fountain. Around 12:30 pm, return to Hillerød train station for your journey back to Copenhagen.
Important information
This day trip does not include transport or entrance to the Frederiksborg Castle. A 24-hour ticket to travel to Hillerød costs about 130DKK per person, and the castle entrance ranges from 90DKK to 110DKK for adults, 70DKK to 90DKK for students and seniors, and is free for children under 18.
If you have the Copenhagen Card, transport by train to Hillerød and entrance to Frederiksborg Castle are included.
