Frederiksborg Castle Day Trip Itinerary

Meeting your guide at Copenhagen Central Station, you'll board a train to Hillerød. The journey, lasting approximately one hour, offers views over Zealand, Denmark's largest island.

At Hillerød train station, a short 15-minute walk will take you to Frederiksborg Castle, built on three islets on the Slotssøen (Castle Lake). This immense palace complex is recognized as the largest Renaissance castle in Scandinavia.

Your guided tour will start in the castle's landscaped gardens, where you can stroll through French-style parterres and mazes, then proceed to the Danish Museum of National History housed within the castle. The museum features a collection of antique furniture, historical paintings, and royal portraits. Notable rooms to visit include the Audience Chamber? and the Great Hall, showcasing beautiful tapestries and Baroque interiors. Also, explore the Frederiksborg Castle Chapel, known for its gold and silver altar and one of Europe's oldest functioning organs.

Continue to appreciate the castle's exterior architectural details like the clocktower and the Neptune fountain . Approximately 12:30 pm, you'll return to Hillerød train station for a return journey to Copenhagen, lasting around one hour.

Important information

This day trip does not include transport or entrance to Frederiksborg Castle. A 24-hour train ticket to Hillerød costs about 130DKK per person. Entrance fees for Frederiksborg Castle range between 90DKK and 110DKK for adults, 70DKK to 90DKK for students and seniors, and is free for children under 18. If you have the Copenhagen Card, transport and entrance fees are included.
