Tour Details

At the indicated time, we'll meet at the sacred forest of Kaya Kinondo, where locals retreat to communicate with their ancestors through prayers and offerings. This tour includes a 15-minute introduction at Kaya Kinondo's Visitors Information Center, where you'll learn about the forest's history and significance. The forest was a fortified settlement founded by the Digo-Mijikenda people over 600 years ago.

Next, we'll undertake a hiking tour lasting about 50 minutes to learn about the forest's flora and fauna as well as the sacred activities that occur in this area. Participants will experience a cultural performance and witness an ancestral healing ritual with a healer in the main forest clearing.

After exploring the forest, we'll visit a traditional village for an hour, where we will learn about their lifestyle and modes of subsistence, watch a traditional dance performance, and taste African herbal tea.

This 4-hour activity concludes with a reflection on the enriching experiences shared.
