Tour Details
At the indicated time, we'll pick you up at your hotel in Diani using a tuk-tuk to travel to the sacred forest of Kaya Kinondo. Locals retreat to this place to communicate with their ancestors through prayers and offerings. Immerse yourself in nature and culture.
First, we'll stop at the Kaya Kinondo's Visitors Information Center for a brief introduction to the forest and what you will see during the tour. The term Kaya means home or village, and this forest was a fortified settlement founded by the Digo-Mijikenda people over 600 years ago, rich in history.
Next, we'll embark on a hiking tour where we'll learn about the forest's flora and fauna and the sacred activities conducted here. You will also experience a cultural performance and witness an ancestral healing ritual with a healer in the main forest clearing, exploring the region’s oldest traditions.
After the forest exploration, we'll visit a traditional village to learn about their lifestyle and modes of subsistence. The tour will conclude with a return to your hotel, lasting approximately 4-5 hours.
