Caño Cristales Day Trip

Embark on an extraordinary day trip from La Macarena to unveil the mysteries of the Caño Cristales, a mesmerizing river renowned for its seven vibrant hues nestled within Colombia’s lush interior jungles. The beauty of this landscape will undoubtedly captivate you!

Day Trip Overview

Your adventure kicks off with a pickup from La Macarena airport at your scheduled time. Following this, we will head to the riverport, where the excitement begins with a speedboat ride along the Guaybero River.

After approximately 20 minutes on the water, we will reach Los Mangos harbour. Here, you will transfer into an off-road vehicle that will carry you deeper into the Colombian jungle. This journey, which lasts about 40 minutes, brings you to the Sierra de la Macarena checkpoint, where our hiking adventure toward the stunning Caño Cristales commences, a hidden treasure located in the Meta department of Colombia.

As we trek, the duration of which will be adjusted to the group's pace, we'll encounter a series of natural swimming holes and pools such as the Ochos, the Pianos, the Piscina del Turista, and the Tapete. A brief pause will allow us to enjoy a refreshing swim in whichever spot captures your interest the most, surrounded by nature.

Upon reaching the end of our trail, the renowned Caño Cristales greets us, often called the 7-colour river due to its remarkable color variations brought about by the rich sediment. Be prepared to see beautiful shades of blue, pink, green, red, yellow, and black, perfect for capturing stunning photographic memories!

We will also take a moment to absorb the tranquility of this breathtaking scenery while savoring a delicious lunch in the open air, featuring an assortment of cold meats wrapped in banana leaves. Once our meal is complete, we'll retrace our steps back to the starting point of the hike, where our off-road vehicle awaits for the return trip to Los Mangos. From there, we will once again board the speedboat for our journey back to the La Macarena river harbour.

After disembarking in the city, we will transfer you back to La Macarena airport, with an estimated arrival time around 5 pm.

Important Pre-Tour Information

It is important to note that visiting the Caño Cristales on the same day you arrive in La Macarena is not permitted, as it is mandatory to attend a briefing provided by the staff of Colombia’s National Parks.
