Caño Cristales Excursion

On this tour from La Macarena, you'll discover the Caño Cristales, a 7-colour river in Colombia's jungles.

Day Trip Details

We will pick you up from La Macarena airport at the scheduled time. Afterward, we will proceed to the city’s riverport to begin our speed boat ride on the Guaybero River.

After a 20-minute boat ride, we will arrive at Los Mangos harbour. From there, we will take a 4x4 jeep for a 40-minute drive into the jungle to the Sierra de la Macarena checkpoint, where we will start our hike towards Caño Cristales.

During the hike, which varies in duration depending on the group's pace, we will pass natural swimming pools including Ochos, Pianos, Piscina del Turista, and Tapete, with a stop for a refreshing dip.

At the end of the trail, we will see the Caño Cristales, known as the 7-colour river due to its varied sedimentation. The colours include blue, pink, green, red, yellow, and black, providing excellent photo opportunities.

We will stop to enjoy a lunch outdoors, featuring cold meats wrapped in banana leaves. After lunch, we will hike back to the starting point and return by jeep to Los Mangos, then take the boat back to La Macarena river harbour.

After disembarking, we will take you to La Macarena airport, arriving around 5 pm.

Note that access to Caño Cristales is not allowed on the arrival day in La Macarena, as attendance to an obligatory talk by Colombia's National Parks staff is required.
