On this cruise around the Palomino Islands, we will sail along the coast of Callao and discover the wildlife of the Peruvian capital. We will see penguins, seabirds, and even swim with a colony of sea lions.
Palomino Islands Boat Trip
At the scheduled time, we'll meet at the Club Canottieri dock in Callao's La Punta Bay. After distributing life jackets, we will board the boat and set sail towards the Palomino Islands.
Before leaving the mainland, we will observe the Camotal, a submerged area of Callao visible at low tide, and discuss its formation.
We will sail around the archipelago, first viewing San Lorenzo Island, the largest island in Peru and home to a naval base. Next, we'll pass by Frontón Island, where remnants of an old prison are visible. The Cavinzas Islands will also be seen, noted for their seabird populations including pelicans, blue-footed boobies, and red-legged cormorants, alongside native birds such as Peruvian gulls and Humboldt penguins.
The highlight will be the Palomino Islands, home to a population of around 8,000 sea lions. We will spend 20-30 minutes swimming with the sea lions before returning to the meeting point, concluding the tour approximately 4 hours after departure.
Animal Sightings
The Palomino Islands are ideal for seeing sea lions, penguins, and other species. However, animal sightings are unpredictable and depend on factors like weather and breeding seasons.
