Pico Island Dolphin & Whale Watching

We will meet at the dock of Rua dos Baleeiros in Lajes do Pico at the scheduled time. Accompanied by biologists, we will receive a brief technical talk before setting sail. We'll depart on a Zodiac boat along Pico's southern coastline, where we will observe large dolphin and whale pods characteristic of the region.

During the voyage, we will look for whales and dolphins commonly found in the North Atlantic. The staff will assist in identifying species based on specific features of the animals' fins or backs. We will also enjoy views of Pico Island’s coastal landscapes while learning about the history of the Azores and other marine species in the archipelago.

After a 3-hour boat trip, we will return to the dock where we began our activity.

Dolphin & Whale Sightings

The southern coast of Pico Island is one of the prime locations in the Azores for observing dolphins, whales, and other marine species. However, animals are unpredictable, and the number of species sighted can vary due to factors such as weather and the animals' breeding and rearing seasons.
