Pico Island Dolphin & Whale Watching

At the scheduled time, we will meet at the dock of Rua dos Baleeiros in Lajes do Picos, one of the picturesque villages on Pico Island's southern coast. Accompanied by biologists, we will receive a brief technical talk before we set sail in a Zodiac boat. You will soon discover why this island in the Azores is renowned for its large dolphin and whale pods.

During our journey, we will look for whales and dolphins common in the North Atlantic. The staff on the Zodiac will assist in distinguishing between species based on features visible on their fins or backs. We will enjoy striking views of Pico Island's coastal landscapes and share intriguing information regarding the history of the Azores and other marine species in this Portuguese archipelago.

After a memorable 3-hour boat trip, we will return to the dock where we initially began.

The southern coast of Pico Island is an excellent location in the Azores for observing dolphins, whales, and other marine species. However, animal sightings are unpredictable, influenced by factors such as weather conditions and the animals’ breeding and rearing seasons.
