Mt Cook Day Trip from Tekapo

Embark on a day trip to Mt. Cook, the tallest peak in New Zealand, departing from Tekapo. The journey begins at the Church of the Good Shepherd in Tekapo, followed by a drive to Mt. Cook.

First, we will stop at Lake Pukaki, where participants can appreciate the varying hues of the water. On clear days, Mt. Cook may be visible from this location.

Next, we will proceed to Mt. Cook National Park, also known as Aoraki, allowing time for exploration. Visitors have the option to choose between the Hooker Valley or the Tasman Glacier for their adventure.

If you choose the Hooker Valley, the hike will lead to an ice-filled lake at the base of Mt. Cook, with possible sounds of glacier movement. Alternatively, the Tasman Glacier track offers views of the glacier, river, and lake, passing through the glacier's old terminal moraines.

Lunch will be provided by Fairlie Bakehouse, featuring local Kiwi cuisine, and will take place at the Mt. Cook Information Center, where information about the park's history is available.

Following these activities, we will return to Tekapo, arriving back at the meeting point approximately 5 hours after departure.
