While you're in New Zealand, don't miss out on a day trip to Mt. Cook, the island's tallest peak, leaving from Tekapo.

Mt Cook Day Trip from Tekapo

After gathering at the Church of the Good Shepherd in Tekapo, we will head to Mt. Cook, the highest peak in New Zealand.

We will arrive at Lake Pukaki and appreciate its waters, which can change in color depending on the weather. If the day is clear, it will be possible to see Mt. Cook from this location.

Next, we will travel to the Mt. Cook National Park, known as Aoraki. Here, you have the option to explore at your own pace, choosing between the Hooker Valley or the Tasman Glacier.

If you choose Hooker Valley, you can hike along ice-covered cliffs to an ice-filled lake at the base of Mt. Cook and may hear the glacier moving. Alternatively, the Tasman Glacier track will take you through old terminal moraines with views of the glacier, river, and lake.

Lunch will be provided by Fairlie Bakehouse, allowing you to enjoy local cuisine while taking in the park's views. You can also visit the Mt. Cook Information Center to learn about the park's history.

Finally, we will return to Tekapo, arriving at the meeting point 5 hours later.
