Mt Cook Day Trip from Tekapo

After gathering at the Church of the Good Shepherd in Tekapo, we will depart for Mt. Cook, the highest peak in New Zealand. Our first stop will be at Lake Pukaki, where you can appreciate its unique water color, which varies depending on the weather. If conditions are favorable, Mt. Cook will be visible from this location.

Next, we will travel to Mt. Cook National Park (Aoraki), where you can explore the area at your own pace. You can choose to visit either the Hooker Valley or the Tasman Glacier.

If you select Hooker Valley, you will hike alongside ice-covered cliff faces to an ice-filled lake at the base of Mt. Cook, with potential glacier sounds enhancing the experience. Alternatively, the Tasman Glacier track leads you through its old terminal moraines, providing scenic views of the glacier, river, and lake.

Lunch will be provided by Fairlie Bakehouse while you take in the views at the Mt. Cook Information Center, where you can learn about the park’s history.

Finally, we will return to Tekapo, arriving at the meeting point approximately 5 hours after departure.
