2-Day Trip to Shincal, Campo de Piedras Pómez, & Carachi Pampa Volcano

On this 2-day trip, we'll discover the ruins of Shincal, the Campo de Piedra Pómez, and the volcano Carachi Pampa.

Trip Details

Day 1: Shincal de Quimivil

We will pick you up from your hotel in La Rioja and travel along Ruta 40 to the Shincal de Quimivil Archeological Site. During this visit, we will explore the city, discuss the Incan Empire, pre-Columbian buildings, vanished indigenous populations, their political systems, everyday life, and the reasons for the city's destruction.

Next, we will visit London and Villa Vil to experience local rural life. The route will take us through Quebrada de Indalecio and ascend to Cuesta de Randolfo for views of striking rock formations. The first day concludes after 10-12 hours at your hotel in El Peñón or Belén.

Day 2: Campo de Piedra Pómez – Carachi Pampa Volcano

The second day begins with pick-up from your hotel in El Peñón or Belén, heading to Campo de Piedra Pómez to explore its pumice stone fields and rock formations in Antofagasta de la Sierra.

Following that, we will explore the Carachi Pampa Volcano, a volcanic cone over 3000 metres (9842 feet) tall, with views over Laguna Blanca. The day ends with our return journey to La Rioja, dropping you off around 8 pm.
