Description
At the indicated time, we'll pick you up at your hotel in La Rioja and start a 4x4 trip along the Ruta Nacional 40 to delve into the history of gold mining in Argentina. We will travel along a notable Argentinean road to the Cuesta de Miranda, making several stops at viewpoints to enjoy the surrounding sierras.
After enjoying the views, we will have some free time to grab food. Once refueled, we will continue along a mountain road with views of the Sierra de Famatina and explore the Pesebre and Ocre canyons.
We will arrive at the La Mexicana Mine, at 4,200 metres (13,780 feet) above sea level, where we will learn about the gold rush of the 19th century. This site was a key centre for gold and silver extraction in the province.
We will understand how precious metals were extracted in this area and the history of the cable car that transported the metals to Chilecito.
Finally, we will return to La Rioja and conclude the excursion at your hotel after a total of 12 hours of driving.
