Join us on a captivating journey that takes you through the remarkable city center of La Rioja in Argentina, where you'll discover the enchanting historical site of Las Padercitas.
Description
Your adventure begins with a pick-up at your accommodation in La Rioja at the appointed hour, as we set off toward the historical essence of the city.
Our itinerary starts at the impressive 25 de Mayo Square, home to the magnificent facade of the Basilica-Cathedral of San Nicolás de Bari. This revered saint has a deep-rooted significance for the locals, particularly since the devastating earthquake in 1894 that impacted La Rioja and surrounding areas. This natural disaster led to the reconstruction of the original Matriz church, ultimately giving rise to the present temple in the early 20th century.
As we continue our exploration, we'll arrive at the grand City Hall, nestled among other architecturally significant buildings that embellish the city. Throughout this experience, you will appreciate the rich convergence of architectural styles and historical narratives, all contributing to a captivating atmosphere.
As our tour through the historic center nears its end, prepare for an intriguing encounter with history! Our path takes us to Las Padercitas, a group of adobe structures that originated in 1630, protected by a robust stone wall. Within this site is a church where San Francisco Solano is said to have halted a gathering of indigenous people from entering the city, a compelling story that will be recounted during our visit.
After exploring Las Padercitas, we will return to La Rioja, concluding our journey with a drop-off at your hotel, providing a comprehensive experience lasting approximately three hours.
