Embark on an exciting hiking adventure in the La Rioja region where you can opt to traverse either the Los Colorados Reserve or discover the stunning Condor Ravine (Quebrada de los Cóndores).

Hiking Choices

During your reservation, you have the flexibility to select one of two scenic trails: the path through Los Colorados Provincial Reserve or the trek in Condor Ravine. Both routes provide hotel pickup and drop-off in La Rioja, along with the guidance of a Spanish-speaking expert. Here are the specifics of each trail:

Los Colorados (8 Hours)

Our journey begins with a scenic drive of 75 kilometers (46.6 miles) from La Rioja to the town of Patquia. Upon arrival, we will head toward Los Colorados, situated at the southern end of a vast 20,000-hectare valley.

As we set out on our hike, we will find ourselves amidst stunning vivid red rock formations. This arid landscape is renowned for its ancient rock paintings, where more than 200 petroglyphs from thousands of years ago can be found. Are you curious about the indigenous communities that once inhabited this land? We'll uncover their stories throughout the hike!

Next, we will explore Chacho Cave, delving into the history of the early settlers of this area. Our trek encompasses a 2-kilometer (1.24 miles) trail that takes us past the remarkable Natural Bridge, an intriguing rock formation sculpted by the forces of nature.

Timeframe: This hiking route is set to commence at 9 am.

Condor Ravine (14 Hours)

Our first destination will be the Punta de los Llanos, following a 110-kilometer (68-mile) drive from La Rioja. En route, we will pass through the municipalities of Tama and Puca Cala, ultimately arriving at the Santa Cruz de la Sierra Estate, which serves as the trailhead for our exploration of Condor Ravine.

The path leads us uphill, framed by massive rocks, mountains, and picturesque views, culminating at a stunning viewpoint. Here, we will pause to witness the majestic flight of Andean condors, a truly awe-inspiring sight!

After this memorable encounter, we will descend to an inn where you will have time to unwind and soak in the tranquil beauty of the natural surroundings before we return to La Rioja.

Timeframe: This hiking option is scheduled to start at 7 am.
