On this hike in La Rioja's surroundings, you'll have the option to trek around Los Colorados Reserve or explore Condor Ravine (Quebrada de los Cóndores).
Hike Options
During the booking process, you can choose between two options: a hiking trail in Los Colorados Provincial Reserve or one in Condor Ravine. Both hikes include hotel pickup and drop-off in La Rioja and a Spanish-speaking guide. Details of each trail are as follows:
Los Colorados (8 Hours)
After a 75-kilometre (46.6-mile) drive from La Rioja, we'll reach the municipality of Patquia. Here, we'll make our way to Los Colorados in a 20,000-hectare valley. Hiking will showcase bright red rock formations and ancient rock art, featuring over 200 petroglyphs. We will visit Chacho Cave to discuss the region's history and pass the Natural Bridge, shaped by wind erosion.
Schedule: This hike option begins at 9 am.
Condor Ravine (14 Hours)
Our first stop will be Punta de los Llanos after a 110-kilometre (68-mile) drive from La Rioja, passing through Tama and Puca Cala to reach the Santa Cruz de la Sierra Estate, the starting point of our Condor Ravine hike. We will follow an uphill trail leading to a viewpoint to observe Andean condors in flight. After this, we will descend to an inn where you'll have some free time before returning to La Rioja.
Schedule: This hike option begins at 7 am.
