Vegueta Walking Tour

At the appointed time, we'll meet at Calle Herrería to begin the guided tour of the Vegueta district.

We'll navigate the maze of streets in the city’s historic center while admiring Spanish colonial architecture. Your guide will explain the daily life of the inhabitants of Las Palmas in the fifteenth century, at the time of the city’s foundation.

The tour proceeds through the old town to the Plaza de San Antonio Abad, where we will see a hermitage with a plaque commemorating Christopher Columbus’s visit to the island. Information about his activities during this visit will be provided.

Next, we will visit Plaza de Santa Ana, home to eight dog sculptures representing the Canary Islands (including La Graciosa). The region is known as “tierra de los canes” due to the presence of many dogs, including four distinct breeds from the Canary Islands.

We will also view the Las Palmas Cathedral, located in Plaza de Santa Ana. This Gothic cathedral was the only one in the Canary Islands until 1819.

After an hour and 20 minutes of sightseeing, the tour will conclude at Plaza de Santa Ana.
