Vegueta Walking Tour
At the appointed time we'll meet at Calle Herrería to begin this guided tour of the Vegueta district.
We'll explore the maze of streets in the city’s historic center while admiring Spanish colonial architecture. Your guide will share insights about the life of inhabitants of Las Palmas in the fifteenth century, during the city's founding.
The tour continues through the old town to Plaza de San Antonio Abad, where we’ll find a hermitage that commemorates Christopher Columbus's visit to the island.
Next, we will visit Plaza de Santa Ana, famous for its eight sculptures of dogs that represent the Canary Islands. The archipelago is known as “tierra de los canes” due to the large number of dogs found on each island.
We will also visit Las Palmas Cathedral in Plaza de Santa Ana, designed in a Gothic style, which was the only cathedral in the Canary Islands until 1819.
After approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes of sightseeing, we'll conclude the tour at the Plaza de Santa Ana.
