At the scheduled time, we will gather at the entrance of Tasca La Picadita to initiate this guided exploration of Vegueta. Are you prepared to delve into the history of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria? Let’s begin!

As we stroll through the intricate alleyways that comprise the historic core of the city, take a moment to appreciate the stunning examples of Spanish colonial architecture. Your guide will share insights into the daily lives of the residents of Las Palmas during the 15th century, coinciding with the establishment of the city.

The journey will lead us to the Plaza de San Antonio Abad, a key area in the old town of Gran Canaria’s capital. Here, we will encounter a chapel featuring a plaque that commemorates Christopher Columbus's visit to this island. Curious about his activities here? All will be revealed during our tour!

Continuing our exploration, we will visit Plaza de Santa Ana. This square showcases eight sculptures of dogs, each symbolizing one of the Canary Islands, including La Graciosa. The archipelago is often referred to as “land of the canines” due to the remarkable presence of dogs on each island, with four distinct breeds originating from the Canary Islands.

Our next highlight will be the stunning Las Palmas Cathedral, also situated in Plaza de Santa Ana. Renowned for its Gothic architecture, it stood as the sole cathedral in the Canary Islands until the year 1819.

After a delightful hour and 20 minutes of discovery, we will conclude our tour at the Plaza de Santa Ana.
