Vegueta Walking Tour
At the appointed time, we'll meet at Calle Herrería to begin this guided tour of the Vegueta district.
We will explore the maze of streets in the historic center, admiring buildings of Spanish colonial architecture. Your guide will share insights on daily life in Las Palmas in the fifteenth century, during the city's founding.
The tour continues in the Plaza de San Antonio Abad, featuring a hermitage with a plaque commemorating Christopher Columbus's visit to the island.
Next, we will visit Plaza de Santa Ana, home to eight sculptures of dogs representing the Canary Islands. This area is referred to as “tierra de los canes” due to the abundance of dogs on the islands.
We will also see the Las Palmas Cathedral in Plaza de Santa Ana, noted for its Gothic architecture and being the only cathedral in the Canary Islands until 1819.
After an hour and 20 minutes of sightseeing, the tour will conclude at the Plaza de Santa Ana.
