Description
Le Thoronet Abbey is one of three Cistercian abbeys in Provence, located near the town of Le Thoronet. The Order of Cistercians built this medieval monastery in the 12th century for spiritual retreat and scriptural study. Key areas include The Cloister, the lavabo washing fountain, and the dormitory where monks lived. Visitors can admire traditional medieval architecture in structures like the Abbey Church, refectory, sacristy, chapter house, and armariums for liturgical books.
Opening times
Le Thoronet Abbey is open from Monday to Sunday:
October 1 - March 31: 10 am to 1 pm and 2 pm to 5 pmApril 1 - September 30: 10 am to 6:30 pm
On December 24 and 31, the abbey closes at 3:30 pm. Last entry is 45 minutes before closing. These times are flexible and subject to change.
Free admission
Admission is free for:
EU residents aged 18 to 25.Children under 18, regardless of nationality.
Free admission is also available on the first Sunday of the month between January 1 and March 31, and November 1 to December 31, as well as on the 3rd weekend of September. To obtain free admission, visit the ticket office with a certifying document.
