Explore the enchanting towns of Gallipoli, Otranto, Leuca, and Galatina on this excursion from Lecce in the Salento region.
Description
This excursion begins at Porta Napoli in Lecce, leading to the towns of Gallipoli, Otranto, Leuca, and Galatina. The journey follows the scenic Adriatic and Ionian coastlines, featuring cliffs, hidden bays, and beaches.
The first stop is the village of Otranto, influenced by Romans, Ottomans, and Aragonese. Visitors can explore its streets, visit the Cathedral, the Byzantine church of San Pietro, the castle, and the Pelasgi Bastions among the ancient city walls.
Next, we travel to Santa Maria di Leuca, where the Ionian and Adriatic Seas meet. Enjoy panoramic views of the harbor and the Sanctuary of Santa Maria di Finibus Terrae, and see spots like Santa Cesarea Terme and Ciolo Fjord.
We then visit Gallipoli, known as the Pearl of the Ionian, featuring a mix of modern and historic architecture on a limestone island.
Finally, we reach Galatina, the third-largest town in Lecce, where you can see the Basilica of Santa Caterina d'Alessandria and the church of Santi Pietro e Paolo.
After an eight-hour journey, we return to the meeting point in Lecce.
