Discover two beautiful towns in the spectacular countryside of southern Italy during this day trip. In Grottaglie, explore magical caves and traditional ceramic artworks, while in Matera, stroll through its picturesque streets to experience traditional Italian culture.

Grottaglie and Matera Trip

Pickup will be provided from your hotel before heading to the region of Murgia. The 50-minute journey will take you through the countryside to Grottaglie in the province of Taranto.

In Grottaglie, you will find a city surrounded by prehistoric caves. Enjoy a leisurely walk through the streets filled with artisan shops selling traditional ceramics. Consider visiting the Museum of Ceramics to learn more about this craft tradition.

Next, travel to Matera, with origins dating back to the Stone Age. Discover the 'City of Stones' by exploring its labyrinth of narrow streets, houses, and balconies. Ensure you visit the neighborhoods of Civita, Sasso Barisano, and Sasso Caveoso.

In Matera, the 'Sassi' area contains prehistoric cave houses carved into the cliff. Exploring these narrow alleyways highlights why this town was chosen by Mel Gibson for his film The Passion of Christ.

The trip concludes back in Lecce, where you will be returned to your accommodation.
