Prepare to explore the splendid baroque churches and the remnants of ancient Roman structures on our walking tour of Lecce. This journey will allow you to delve into the rich heritage of this southern Italian city as we navigate through its historical center.

Tour Overview

We will begin our walking tour of Lecce at the designated meeting point in the Piazza Sant'Oronzo. This captivating city, often referred to as the Florence of the South, sets the stage for an unforgettable experience.

As we wander through the historic core of Lecce, you will be transported back to the time of the Roman Empire. Here, you can view the remarkable remnants of the theatre and amphitheatre, both of which date back to the 2nd century AD.

Our journey will also lead us to the impressive façade of the Castle of Charles V, constructed in 1539. We will uncover Lecce's historical ties to the Spanish Crown while passing by Renaissance structures like the Vernazza Palace. The city boasts numerous churches adorned with exquisite Baroque details.

We will take a moment to appreciate the Church of San Giuseppe and observe the intricate features of the Basilica of Santa Croce. During our visit, we will also explore the fascinating dragons decorating its façade, which symbolize the famed Battle of Lepanto.

Our tour will include a visit to the exterior of the Lecce Cathedral and its adjoining square, where the Episcopal Palace and the seminary can also be admired.

After spending 1 hour and 30 minutes discovering Lecce's treasures, we will conclude our walking tour at our original meeting point.
