Would you like to marvel at the Sistine Chapel of the Romanesque? With this visit to the Museum of San Isidoro de León, you'll discover one of the most important Romanesque complexes in Europe. You'll love it!
Tour Details
We'll meet at the time you choose during the booking process in the interior of the Museum of San Isidoro de León. There, we'll begin a tour of one of the most visited monuments in León.
During our tour through the different rooms, whose exhibition space has been increased threefold, we'll take an authentic journey through time, walking through the cloister and the chapter house. Did you know that the Kings of León collected a treasure? One of the most important pieces we'll see is the Arqueta de los Marfiles, from the 11th century.
Are you ready to marvel at the highlight of the visit? The Royal Panteon, also known as the Sistine Chapel of the Romanesque, stands out among the museum's collection. While we tell you the history of these frescoes, we'll also take a look at the details they hide.
We'll continue our tour by reaching the main staircase, and then we'll pass through the chamber of Doña Sancha to admire its mural paintings. We won't end the visit without visiting the Renaissance Library, which houses some 2,000 volumes dating from the 10th to the 18th century, and more than 100 codices!
Another of the museum's jewels is the chalice of Doña Urraca, a delicate piece of Romanesque goldsmith's work donated by the Leonese Infanta Urraca of Zamora.
After an hour's tour, we'll finish the tour at the entrance to the Museum of San Isidoro.
