Leave Costa Rica behind and spend a day in Nicaragua: explore the historic town of Granada and discover the spectacular volcanic landscapes of the Masaya National Park.

Nicaragua Day Trip from Guanacaste

On the day of your excursion, you'll be picked up from your hotel in the morning and set off from Guanacaste towards the north. Reaching the border, you'll enter Nicaragua.

Your first stop will be at Lake Nicaragua, where you'll take a boat ride to get a closer look at the Nicaraguan islets and enjoy typical Nicaraguan cuisine on one of them.

Next, visit Granada for a guided tour of the historic centre of Nicaragua's oldest city, located on the coast of Lake Cocibolca. Explore the city’s colonial past and indigenous legacy as you admire its landmarks.

Stroll to the Cathedral, a significant monument in yellow colonial style, while learning about Granada's architectural styles and its nickname "La Gran Sultana."

You'll then head to Masaya Volcano National Park to hike between the craters of the San Fernando and San Juan Volcanoes, enjoying views of the surrounding hills.

Before concluding your tour, stop at the Masaya Handicraft Market for souvenirs and pass by the Catarina Volcano viewpoint.

At the end of the day, you'll return to the Costa Rican border and then be transferred back to your hotel in Guanacaste approximately 14 hours after departure.
