Lima Churches Tour
We will meet at the entrance of the Church of the Nazarenas at the scheduled time to begin our tour around Lima's churches. The Peruvian capital has deep ties to Catholicism, introduced by the Spanish conquistadores and friars who converted indigenous populations.
Lima is the seat of the Archdiocese of Peru and home to two saints. Our first stop will be the sanctuary and monastery of Las Nazarenas, where the Lord of Miracles is venerated. Next, we will visit the Sanctuary of Saint Rosa de Lima, and the house of Saint Martín de Porres, another patron saint of Lima.
We will walk to the Convent of Santo Domingo, where the remains of Saint Rosa de Lima, Saint Martín de Porres, and Saint John Macias are laid to rest. Our next stop is the Plaza de Armas, home to the Cathedral of Lima, where Francisco Pizarro is buried. We will then visit the Convent of San Francisco, a symbolic building in Lima.
Lastly, we will head to St. Peter's Basilica, a 16th-century architectural treasure founded by the Society of Jesus. The tour ends at St. Peter's Basilica after 4 hours of exploring.
