Lismore Guided Tour
Our journey begins at 2 pm on West Street, where we'll kick off this guided experience in Lismore, delving into the rich history of this charming town located in County Waterford.
We will initiate our exploration on Lismore's ancient thoroughfare, an ideal setting to reflect on its Celtic beginnings, Viking conquests, and Norman invasions. The town's past is equally fascinating and complex! Close by, we'll visit the former railroad station, which operated until the 1960s and has since been transformed into a residential space.
Another notable site on our itinerary is the Famine Graveyard, a poignant reminder of one of the most heart-wrenching periods in the area's history. Up next is St. Carthage Cathedral, where we will admire its exterior and uncover intricate details of its façade.
Our tour will then take us to Lismore Castle, perched atop a hill that overlooks the Blackwater River. This historical fortress has welcomed several distinguished guests throughout the years, including King Henry II of England, Fred Astaire, and John F. Kennedy!
Concluding our 50-minute guided exploration of Lismore, we will return to our starting point to reflect on the history and charm we have uncovered.
