Experience the stunning landscapes that enfold the historic town of Lismore during our Round Hill Hiking Activity. This journey includes a visit to the well-known Motte and Bailey Castle, accompanied by a serene stroll along the shores of the River Blackwater.
Round Hill Hiking Activity
Our adventure begins at 11 am on West Street in Lismore, where we will embark on the Round Hill trail. This scenic pathway meanders through lush woodlands and follows the gentle curves of the River Blackwater.
As we delve into Lismore's delightful forest, we will arrive at the Special Area of Conservation. Here, we will explore the intriguing history that characterizes this remarkable location.
Our hike will also take us to the impressive Norman Motte and Bailey Castle, erected by King John of England in the late 12th century as a stronghold for the region.
Over the course of our 3 miles (5 kilometres) walking journey, participants will enjoy breathtaking vistas of the River Blackwater while unraveling the captivating Irish legends connected to the Motte and Bailey.
We will conclude our excursion by returning to the starting point, where we will part ways around 12:30 pm.
