A one of a kind, authentic experience
Strawberry Field today, is an award-winning, fully accessible heritage attraction, with interactive exhibition, peaceful gardens and the Imagine More cafe. But before that, it was the Salvation Army Children's home which captured the heart of John Lennon as a boy and inspired the legendary Beatles song Strawberry Fields Forever.
In the peaceful gardens of Strawberry Field, so dear to John, your visitors have the unique chance to see the original iconic red gates, loved by Beatles fans and the uniquely designed bandstand, a homage to John’s early love of Salvation Army bands performing in the garden and to The Beatles iconic Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band album front cover.
In the exhibition, visitors discover the history of The Salvation Army and its children’s home at Strawberry Field, John Lennon's childhood and the writing and recording of the famous song, as told by John’s close friends and family. Centre piece: one of the most treasured pianos in the world, upon which John Lennon wrote and composed the global peace anthem Imagine. Later George Michael who bought this piano in 2000 would go on to compose and record the title song for his album Patience. The piano is on long loan from George’s Estate.
Recently, Strawberry Field won, for the second year in a row, The Small Visitor Attraction of the Year 2024 at the Liverpool City Region Tourism Awards and The Imagine More Café also won Café of the Year. It has also gained a ’Silver’ Green Tourism Award in recognition of our ongoing commitment to sustainability.
The audio guide (languages) is included and now also offers a One Touch option for ease of use. And an added extra to this - a unique garden tour using soundscapes to offer your visitors a chance to explore mindfulness and reconnect with nature.
Imagine More café and shop
The Imagine More Café offers seasonal dishes made using locally-sourced ingredients. Visitors can sit inside or outside both have views of the gardens. For groups we can pre-arrange two course lunches; morning filter coffee/tea cake or afternoon cream tea. Or why not go for the full afternoon tea. It’s also easy for visitors to buy a take-away hot or cold drink to enjoy while wandering around the gardens.
The shop offers unique designs from local artists. Not enough time, there’s also the on-line shop. Please contact us with your group’s catering needs.
Strawberry Field is committed to sustainability, accessibility and responsible tourism:
All profits go towards funding the ‘Steps at Strawberry Field’ programmes. These programmes support local adults with learning difficulties and other barriers to work, gain access to employment skills, work experience and, ultimately, paid employment.
