Carihuairazo Volcano Frozen Lagoon Excursion
The tour starts at 8 am, when we will meet you at your accommodation in Baños de Agua Santa. Afterward, we’ll set off towards the Chimborazo Fauna Production Reserve, approximately two hours away by minibus.
Upon arrival, you will be captivated by the majestic Chimborazo volcano, standing at 20,700 feet (6,310 meters) as the tallest peak in Ecuador. Nearby lies our target for the day—the Carihuairazo volcano.
We will embark on a 3-hour hiking journey, delving into the scenic wilderness surrounding both volcanoes. As we trek across snowy landscapes, you will enjoy breathtaking views of towering peaks and expansive valleys until we arrive at the frozen lagoon of Carihuairazo, referred to locally as the Laguna Congelada.
While you capture the beauty of this glacial oasis, we will share insights about the formation of this area over millions of years, resulting from the glacial melting of the Carihuairazo volcano.
Afterwards, we will pause by the frozen lagoon for a delightful picnic featuring a sandwich, fruit, and juice. Once rejuvenated, we will begin our descent back.
As we return to the minibus, we will proceed back to your hotel, concluding the excursion around 5 pm.
