Tungurahua Volcano 2-Day Hiking Excursion
Day 1
Pickup at your hotel in Baños de Agua Santa will be at 8:30 am. A safety briefing and equipment overview will precede our departure towards the Tungurahua volcano. After arrival, we will embark on a 3-hour hike to the Garganta de Fuego refuge, at an altitude of 12,634 feet (3,851 meters). At the lodge, a meal of soup, a meat dish, and juice will be provided. The afternoon will be dedicated to exploring the surroundings and preparing for the climb ahead.
A dinner of either meat or chicken with juice will be served, followed by rest for the next day's ascent.
Day 2
At around 1 am, we will wake and have coffee, bread, and fruit. This meal will prepare us for the final ascent, which will take approximately six hours to the summit of Mama Tungurahua, a permanently active stratovolcano. The summit offers views of the sunrise over the Andes.
Following the ascent, we will descend to the refuge and then proceed to the parking lot. A minibus will take us back to Baños de Agua Santa, arriving at approximately 2 pm.
