Tungurahua Volcano 2-Day Hiking Excursion
Day 1
We'll pick you up at your hotel in Baños de Agua Santa at 8:30 am. A safety briefing and equipment introduction will precede our journey to the Tungurahua volcano.
Upon arrival, we'll embark on a 3-hour hiking route to the Garganta de Fuego refuge, at an altitude of 12,634 feet (3,851 meters). There, we'll enjoy a meal consisting of soup, a meat dish, and juice. The afternoon will be spent exploring the surroundings and preparing for the next ascent.
Later, dinner will include a choice of meat or chicken and juice before resting for the next day.
Day 2
At around 1 am, we'll have coffee, bread, and fruit to fuel the final ascent. The next six hours will involve a hiking route to the summit of Mama Tungurahua, a permanently active stratovolcano. The views of the sunrise over the Andes will be spectacular.
After the ascent, we'll descend to the refuge and then to the parking lot, taking a minibus back to Baños de Agua Santa, arriving at approximately 2 pm.
