Discover one of the natural jewels of the Argentine province of Santa Cruz with this hiking route through the plateau of Lake Buenos Aires. You'll leave from the town of Los Antiguos, located on the shores of this famous Patagonian lagoon shared between Argentina and Chile.
Lake Buenos Aires Plateau Hike
Between 8 and 8:30 am, we'll pick you up at your hotel in Los Antiguos. We will take the road parallel to Lake Buenos Aires until we reach Estancia La Ascensión, a ranch with over 100 years of history. Here, we will learn about Fundación Flora y Fauna, focused on preserving the biodiversity of Santa Cruz. After this, we will continue to the plateau of Lake Buenos Aires and begin our hiking route at its foothills.
Lake Buenos Aires, also known as Chelenko and General Carrera, has sections in both Argentina and Chile. The hike covers 4 kilometers with a 400-meter change in elevation, during which we will share the history of this lake. The effort will be rewarded as we enjoy views of the lake and, if conditions permit, catch glimpses of macás tobianos. A picnic lunch featuring meat and vegetable rolls, fruits, and homemade puddings will be provided halfway through the hike.
After lunch, we'll return to our starting point and then head back to Los Antiguos, with an arrival scheduled for 5:30 pm.
