On this guided tour of the Loulé salt mine, you'll learn about one of the oldest trades in the Algarve. You can also see an art exhibition dedicated to Santa Barbara, the Patron Saint of Miners!

When booking, you can choose between the following options:

Salt Mine Tour

At the indicated time, we'll meet at the entrance of the Loulé salt mine and start a guided tour inside. We'll first take an elevator that will take us down 754.5 ft (230 meters) deep!

Then, we'll step out onto the saline floor and follow a circular path through some of the mine's galleries. We'll admire the size and beauty of the walls, formed by salt rocks of various colors formed more than 230 million years ago.

We'll learn about the salt extraction process and the evolution of the engineering and mining machinery used.

After 1.5 hours of exploring the Loulé salt mine, we'll end the tour by returning outside.

Salt Mine Tour + Art Exhibition

With this option, in addition to the guided tour of the Loulé salt mine, you'll also enjoy an exhibition of Santa Barbara, the Patron Saint of Miners and Other Arts. This collection is in one of the galleries of the mine.

You can see sculptures, paintings, and religious pieces related to her worshippers and learn about the techniques used in these works of art from around the world.
