4-Day Inca Trail Hike to Machu Picchu
Day 1: Urubamba - Wayllabamba
Pickup at your hotel in Urubamba occurs at the scheduled time for a journey to the village of Piscacucho, where the first trek begins. The hike includes views of La Veronica and follows the Vilcanota River to the archaeological site of Llactapata. Post-visit, lunch is at Taray, followed by a hike to the Wayllabamba camp at 3300 meters (10,826 feet) for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2: Warmi Wañusqa - Pacaymayo
After breakfast, a challenging uphill hike to the highest point of the Inca Trail, Warmi Wañusqa, at 4200 meters (13,780 feet) follows. A descent to Pacaymayo leads to dinner and rest.
Day 3: Runkuracay - Sayacmarca - Puyupatamarca - Wiñay Huayna
After breakfast, the longest hike begins with a visit to the ruins of Runkuracay and guided tours of Sayacmarca and Puyupatamarca. Lunch is included, followed by exploration at Wiñay Huayna for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 4: Inti Punku - Machu Picchu
Breakfast precedes the hike to Machu Picchu via Inti Punku, offering spectacular views. A three-hour guided tour of the complex occurs, followed by free time before returning to Aguas Calientes for the train back to your hotel. Alternative endings include Ollantaytambo, Yucay, or Cusco.
Accommodation
The tour includes three nights of camping at Wayllabamba, Pacaymayo, and Wiñay Huayna. Sleeping bags and trekking poles are available for rent at the camp.
Difficulty of the Hike
Trail difficulty varies per day, covering 12, 11, 16, and 6 kilometers (7.5, 5.6, 10, and 3.7 miles). A good physical condition is required as hikes are of medium to high intensity at high altitudes.
Options
Reservations offer two package options. The no-porter option requires participants to carry their own luggage, while the porter option allows luggage transport, limited to 6 kilos (13.2 pounds).
Important
In case of cancellation due to strikes or weather conditions, an alternative date will be offered. If rescheduling is not possible, a refund will be issued, excluding the non-cancellable Inca Trail entrance fees (approx. 292 PEN).
