Explore one of the last Inca strongholds on this excursion to Vitcos, where the Inca leaders of Vilcabamba ruled - a place full of ancient history!

Vitcos Excursion

We'll pick you up at your hotel at 4 am to cross the Sacred Valley of the Incas. We'll travel part of the Abra Málaga Route, observing peaks that reach a towering 4,316 meters high, before descending through the Lucumayo Valley.

Then, we'll arrive in Huancacalle, where you'll have a break for breakfast on your own. Afterward, we'll begin a hike to Vitcos, also called Rosaspata. This archaeological complex, along with Hatun Vilcabamba and Espíritu Pampa, was crucial during the Inca resistance in the 16th century.

During the tour, we'll discuss the four Incas of Vilcabamba and their significance in this sacred location as an important stronghold during the resistance.

We'll explore the fortresses and funerary monuments of Vitcos, noting its construction from pink stone. The complex consists of three sectors: the main square, the ceremonial monuments, and the Ñusta Hispana, where the Wanca is located, believed to extract energy. The "White Rock" with representations of the Inca Cross or Chakana will also be observed.

After uncovering the mysteries of Vitcos, we'll begin our return. On the way back, we'll stop in the town of Lucma to view the colonial Baroque-style church of San Pedro and San Pablo, with its bell tower and mural paintings. Following a break for lunch on your own, we will arrive at your hotel at 9 pm.
