Explore one of the last Inca strongholds on this excursion to Vitcos, a place rich in ancient history.
Vitcos Excursion
Pickup will commence at your hotel at 4 am to cross the Sacred Valley of the Incas. The journey includes part of the Abra Málaga Route, where you will observe peaks reaching 4,316 meters before descending through the Lucumayo Valley.
Upon reaching Huancacalle, there will be a break for breakfast on your own. Subsequently, you will begin a hike to Vitcos, also known as Rosaspata. This archaeological complex was one of the bastions of Inca resistance in the 16th century, alongside Hatun Vilcabamba and Espíritu Pampa.
During the tour, you will learn about the four Incas of Vilcabamba and the historical significance of this sacred site.
The tour includes the fortresses and funerary monuments of Vitcos, showcasing its pink stone constructions. The complex features three sectors: the main square, ceremonial monuments, and the Ñusta Hispana, which includes the Wanca, believed to have energy extraction properties. You will also view the "White Rock," a sacred stone depicting the Inca Cross or Chakana.
After exploring Vitcos, you will return via the town of Lucma to see the colonial Baroque-style church of San Pedro and San Pablo, known for its bell tower and mural paintings. After lunch at a local restaurant on your own, you will arrive back at your hotel by 9 pm.
