  • 17 hours

Discover a hidden gem of the Inca heritage with this journey to Vitcos, the historic residence of the Inca leaders in Vilcabamba, where ancient stories await your exploration.

Trip Overview

Your adventure begins with a pick-up from your accommodation at the scheduled time, followed by a scenic drive through the Sacred Valley of the Incas. During this trek, we’ll navigate a segment of the Abra Málaga Route, surrounded by majestic peaks soaring up to 4,316 meters, before we descend into the Lucumayo Valley.

Upon reaching Huancacalle, you will have some free time to enjoy breakfast at your leisure. Following this, we will embark on a hike to Vitcos, also known as Rosaspata. This archaeological site, along with Hatun Vilcabamba and Espíritu Pampa, served as crucial centers of Inca resistance during the 16th century.

Are you familiar with the four Incas of Vilcabamba? Through the course of our excursion, we will delve into the stories of these leaders and the significant role that this sacred site played during their struggle.

As we explore the magnificent fortifications and burial sites of Vitcos, you will marvel at the structures crafted from pink stone. The site comprises three distinct areas: the main square, the ceremonial structures, and the Ñusta Hispana, which housed the Wanca, a stone believed to harness energy. Additionally, we will encounter the "White Rock," a revered stone adorned with the Inca Cross, or Chakana.

After uncovering the intriguing secrets of Vitcos, we will make our way back. En route, our journey will take us through the town of Lucma, where we can stop to view the colonial Baroque-style church of San Pedro and San Pablo, notable for its unique bell tower and striking mural artworks.

Following a break for lunch at a local eatery, you'll return to your hotel approximately 17 hours later.
