Pico Island Tour
Our adventure begins at the specified meeting point, located at the pier of Pico Island. From there, we’ll embark on an exploration of the island, making our way through the charming capital, Madalena.
As we venture beyond the city, we'll uncover the island's viticultural significance while traversing the UNESCO World Heritage wine landscapes of Pico.
The journey will proceed along the coastline, leading us to the Pocinho pond, a haven for various migratory birds. This vineyard region is under the watchful gaze of the volcano that lends its name to the island. The impressive massif that encircles the Montaña do Pico Nature Reserve stands as the tallest peak in both the Azores and Portugal, towering at 2351 meters above sea level!
Next, we will pause at a local restaurant renowned for its superb fresh fish and regional meats.
In the afternoon, our tour continues with a visit to the Whalers' Museum. Here, you'll encounter model ships and various artifacts that reflect the significance of whaling in the history of Pico Island.
As we head back to the north coast, enjoy breathtaking views of the island of São Jorge, and if you wish, take a refreshing dip in the waters. We'll also stop at Lajido village to sample the local Verdelho wine, concluding our tour in Madalena approximately 8 to 9 hours later.
