Pico Island Tour
At the designated time, we'll meet at the pier of Pico Island. The tour will begin, passing through the picturesque island capital, Madalena.
We will explore the oenological significance of the island by passing through the UNESCO World Heritage wine-growing landscapes of Pico. The journey continues along the coast to the Pocinho pond, home to various migratory birds, observed under the watch of the island's namesake volcano, the massif surrounding the Montaña do Pico Nature Reserve, the highest peak in the Azores and Portugal at 2351 meters above sea level.
Afterward, a break will be taken to taste traditional Pico cheese at the oldest cheese factory. A visit to a local restaurant follows, known for its fresh fish and local meat.
In the afternoon, we will visit the Whalers' Museum, where visitors can see model ships and artifacts from this industry's history on Pico. The return to the north coast will provide views of São Jorge, with an option to swim, before reaching Lajido village to taste Verdelho wine. The tour concludes in Madalena after 8.5 hours.
