The Pico Island wines, grown from volcanic soil, are known for their high quality. Discover how and where they are made by visiting the island's vineyards and wineries.

Pico Island Wine Tour

The wine tour starts at the scheduled time from the Cais da Madalena Pico.

The first stop will be at Moinho do Frade, noted for its wine-growing landscapes, designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Next, we will visit the Cooperativa do Vinho for a tasting session featuring a variety of white, red, and liqueur wines, including Frei Gigante, the best-known white wine in the Azores.

Afterwards, lunch will be served at a local restaurant offering fresh products such as tuna or local meats, complemented by Pico wine.

The tour continues with a walk through villages built with volcanic stones to reach Madalena. On the outskirts, we will visit the Wine Museum, exploring its vineyards and facilities that showcase the treatment of grapevines for wine production. This site is also home to the largest dragon trees on Pico Island.

We will conclude with a second tasting of local wines at a winery, including the traditional Verdelho do Pico.

The tour will end 8 hours after departure back at the starting point.
