Visit two monuments on the same day with this excursion to El Escorial and the Valley of the Fallen. A journey through time from the 16th century to the Spanish Civil War.

Day Trip Details

We'll meet at the designated time on Calle San Nicolás, next to Plaza de Ramales in Madrid. After introductions, we'll board the bus and set off for El Escorial.

The first stop will be the Royal Monastery of San Lorenzo de El Escorial, protected by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. Here, we'll journey back to the 16th century during the time of King Philip II to learn about the significance of this site in the Sierra de Guadarrama.

As we walk through various rooms of the monastery, we'll gain insights into this impressive monument. We'll also visit several rooms of the Habsburg Palace, the pantheon, and the emblematic library of the Royal Monastery of San Lorenzo de El Escorial.

Next, we'll head to the basilica of the Valley of the Fallen, carved into the rock and topped with a huge cross over 100 meters tall. As we explore its interior and chapels, we'll delve into the history of this controversial monument related to the Spanish Civil War.

After a five-hour tour, we'll return to Madrid and conclude our journey at the bus parking lot at Plaza de Oriente.
