Tour Details

During the booking process, you can choose between two different tour options. At the designated time, we'll meet at your selected meeting point, where we'll kick start an exciting day visiting the filming locations from The Lord of the Rings. Both tours include entry to the Weta Workshop and a guided tour of the studio.

Half-Day Tour (4 Hours)

As we leave Wellington, we'll head to Mount Victoria. En route, we'll pass by the Embassy Picture Theatre, known for hosting the premieres of Return of the King and The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.

Upon arrival, we’ll visit Mount Victoria's lookout for views, followed by exploring Hobbiton Woods, where memorable moments were filmed. Next, we’ll visit the Miramar Peninsula and the Weta Workshop, where you'll uncover filmmaking secrets. At the Weta Cave, there will be time for souvenirs and photographs. We’ll conclude with a visit to the bay area that served as part of Rivendell.

Available times: Daily at 8:30 am, 1 pm, and 1:30 pm.

Full-Day Tour (8 hours)

The full-day tour follows a similar itinerary with additional stops. After the lookout, we'll visit the Weta Workshop for a behind-the-scenes tour, where an artist will discuss prop and costume creation. Our tour continues to the shores of the Hutt River, serving as the River Anduin for iconic scenes.

Lunch will be provided at a nearby café. Post-lunch, we'll visit Kaitoke Regional Park, used as Rivendell, and then the Gardens of Isengard in Harcourt Park. On the return trip, we’ll pass by the Dry Creek Quarry.

Available times: Daily at 8:30 am.
