Explore the enchanting world of Middle-earth on our Lord of the Rings tour from Wellington, and see iconic filming locations full of natural beauty!

Tour Details

During the booking process, you can choose between two different tour options. At the designated time, we'll meet at your selected meeting point, where we'll kick start an exciting day visiting the filming locations from The Lord of the Rings. Both tours include entry to the Weta Workshop and a guided tour of the studio. Below you'll find further details for each tour:

Half-Day Tour (4 Hours)

As we leave Wellington, we'll set our sights on Mount Victoria, passing by the Embassy Picture Theatre. At Mount Victoria's lookout, we'll enjoy stunning views and explore Hobbiton Woods to discuss the filmmaking process and share stories from The Lord of the Rings.

Next, we'll visit the Miramar Peninsula and the Weta Workshop, where you'll discover cinematic secrets. At the Weta Cave, you'll have time for souvenirs and a photo with Gollum or Bilbo's trolls. We will conclude the tour at the bay area used for parts of Rivendell.

Available times: Daily at 8:30 am, 1 pm, and 1:30 pm.

Full-Day Tour (8 hours)

The full-day tour follows a similar itinerary with additional stops and insights into each film site. After visiting the lookout, we will head to the Weta Workshop for a behind-the-scenes tour. Our journey will then take us to the shores of the Hutt River, known as the River Anduin, and site of key scenes.

Next, enjoy lunch at a nearby café featuring traditional dishes. Afterward, we will visit the Kaitoke Regional Park, used as Rivendell, and conclude at the Gardens of Isengard in Harcourt Park. We will pass by the Dry Creek Quarry on our return.

Available times: Daily at 8:30 am.
