Are you ready to unveil the hidden gems of Andalusia? This Day Trip to the Buddhist Stupa & the White Villages of Axarquia offers a unique opportunity to explore some of the region’s lesser-known monuments along with the picturesque towns of Comares, Cútar, and El Borge.
Description
At the arranged time, we will gather at the Paseo de la Farola in Malaga and board a minibus that will transport us to the Karma Guen Buddhist Centre. Get ready to embark on this intriguing journey!
Following a scenic 40-minute ride, we will reach the Velez-Malaga Buddhist Stupa, a remarkable structure completed in 1994, recognized as the first of its kind established outside of Asia. During our visit, we will share insights into its complex architecture and the significance of its various elements.
Strolling along the rural pathways of the Buddhist center, you will be treated to breathtaking views of the sea as well as the Tejeda and Almijara mountain ranges. Next, we will proceed to the nearby Atalaya Tower, a 15th-century fortress showcasing beautiful Arab architectural style.
We will then return to our minibus and continue our exploration of the enchanting white villages in the area. Our initial destination will be Comares, where we’ll embark on a guided tour. As we navigate its narrow alleys, you'll learn why this village holds the title of 'castle on the heights'. After the tour, you'll have an hour of free time for lunch.
Following Comares, we’ll make our way to Cútar where we will visit the historic fountain and Our Lady of the Incarnation Church before boarding the minibus to El Borge. Did you know that this village has a past linked to banditry? We’ll wander through its streets and explore the quirky crypt of El Rosario Church, which might catch you by surprise...
To conclude our tour, we will make our way back to the starting point in Malaga after approximately 8 hours of exploration and discovery.
