Discover some of the most fascinating spots in inner Crete on this tour from Malia. You will visit the monastery of Odigitria, stroll around Agiofarago Gorge and visit Matala, a hippie enclave.

Agiofarago, Matala & Odigitria Jeep Safari

At 8 am, pick-up will be from your hotel in Malia. We’ll hop on a jeep and venture into inner Crete to visit notable locations.

We’ll traverse scenic vineyard landscapes while learning about the grape varieties and wines produced in Crete. The first stop will be in Agios Thomas, a small village located at 760 meters (2493 ft) above sea level, where we will visit churches, remnants of Byzantine aqueducts, and Roman tombs.

Next, we will head towards the valley of Messara, passing through olive groves to arrive at Odigitria Monastery, a historic site dating back to the 14th century. After viewing the exterior, we will enter its museum to explore traditional Cretan artifacts.

Afterward, we will visit Agiofarago Gorge, stopping at the entrance to walk around and admire the landscapes. After a 20-minute walk, we will reach Agiofarago beach for swimming in its clear waters. Lunch will follow at a local restaurant with a menu including a main course, salad, and dessert.

Our final destination will be the village of Matala, historically known for its hippie presence in the '70s. You will have free time to explore Matala at your own pace. We will then return to Malia, dropping you off at your hotel around 4 pm.
