Agiofarago, Matala & Odigitria Jeep Safari
At 8 am we'll pick you up from your hotel in Malia. We’ll hop on a jeep to venture into inner Crete to visit some of the most magical places on the island.
We’ll traverse vineyard landscapes and learn about the varieties of grapes and wines produced in Crete. Our first stop will be in Agios Thomas, a village at 760 meters (2493 ft) above sea level. Enjoy views and visit churches, remains of Byzantine aqueducts, and Roman tombs.
Next, we will tour towards the valley of Messara, crossing olive groves to arrive at Odigitria Monastery, dating back to the 14th century. After admiring the exterior, we will enter its museum to discover traditional Cretan life.
We will then proceed to Agiofarago Gorge. We'll stop at the entrance, walk around the gorge, and after a 20-minute walk, reach Agirofarago beach for a swim in its clear waters. Later, lunch at a local restaurant includes a main course, a salad, and dessert.
The last destination will be the village of Matala, known for its hippie residents in the '70s. You will have free time to explore Matala at your leisure. Finally, we’ll make our way back to Malia, dropping you off at your hotel around 4 pm.
