Matera Tuk-Tuk Tour

After meeting your guide in Via Alessandro Volta, you'll begin your tour of historic Matera on board the tuk-tuk, known in Italian as "Ape calessino." This tour includes multiple stops at the city's significant sites for close exploration and photography. The first visit will be the Church of Purgatory, built in 1747, with its façade featuring numerous skulls and skeletons.

Next, you will head to Matera Cathedral, located at the highest point in the city. This temple is notable for its 52-metre-tall belfry and its audible seven bells. Following this, the journey continues to the Church of San Giovanni, leading you into the Sasso Barisano and Sasso Cavoso neighbourhoods, home to the ancient 'sassi di Matera' cave dwellings, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1993.

These districts have served as filming locations due to their resemblance to Jerusalem. The tour culminates after an immersive 50-minute tuk-tuk tour as you arrive at Piazza San Francesco.
