Sasso Barisano Tour

We'll meet at the indicated time at Via Domenico Ridola 61, where we'll start this tour by talking about the history and culture of the city of Matera.

To reach Sasso Barisano, we'll take Via Ridola, seeing baroque-style buildings and temples. We'll pass the Lanfranchi seminary, the church of Santa Chiara, and the convent of the Poor Clares, home to the Domenico Ridola Archaeological Museum.

We will leave behind the churches of Purgatorio and San Francesco to reach Piazza del Sedile, known for its lively atmosphere reflecting the characteristic Italian dolce vita. Next, we will go on Via delle Beccheria to reach Piazza Vittorio Veneto, where a panoramic view of Sasso Barisano awaits us, accessed through narrow alleyways and underground passages.

In Sasso Barisano, we'll visit one of its typical cave houses, learn about the life of its past inhabitants, and explore an ancient hypogeum. On our way back, we'll have one last stop for a tasting of local products before concluding the tour after 2.5 hours of exploration.
