Sasso Barisano Tour
We'll meet at the indicated time at Via Domenico Ridola 61, where we'll start this tour by discussing the history and culture of Matera.
To reach Sasso Barisano, we'll take Via Ridola, passing baroque-style buildings and temples, including the Lanfranchi seminary, the church of Santa Chiara, and the convent of the Poor Clares, which houses the Domenico Ridola Archaeological Museum.
After visiting the churches of Purgatorio and San Francesco, we'll arrive at Piazza del Sedile, known for its lively atmosphere reflecting the Italian dolce vita. We'll continue along Via delle Beccheria to Piazza Vittorio Veneto, where a panoramic view of Sasso Barisano awaits us, accessible through narrow alleyways and underground passages.
In Sasso Barisano, we'll tour one of its typical cave houses carved into the rock, learning about the lifestyle of Matera's past inhabitants. We will also explore an ancient hypogeum.
