Black River Gorges Hiking Tour
The hike starts at the Le Pétrin information center, providing direct access to the Black River Gorges National Park.
We will hike for about four hours through trails in this natural reserve, covering over 16,000 acres. The area features lush vegetation, with more than 300 different species of trees and plants, alongside diverse wildlife including birds, monkeys, reptiles, and other species.
As we walk through the Macchabée forest, we will find viewpoints with panoramic views of the valleys and mountains in the park, and opportunities to photograph waterfalls cascading down the gorges.
On the return, we will cross the Mare Longue reservoir at the northern end of the park, where there may be sightings of the pink pigeon, a species native to Mauritius.
We will conclude the tour approximately 5 hours later at the Le Pétrin information center after walking 7.5 miles through green trails and tropical landscapes.
