Street Art Journey in Comuna 13
We will convene at the designated time near Parque el Poblado, where our street art adventure in Medellin will commence, unveiling the city's most vivid expressions of art. Prepare to step aboard a van adorned with graffiti (graffivan) as we set off!
Next, we will venture into Comuna 13, once regarded as one of Medellin's most perilous regions. This tour reveals how urban artistry has played a vital role in the area's evolution, moving beyond its dark history of drug trafficking and crime.
Our first stop is a vibrant locale where artists share impromptu performances centered on cultural themes and current events—you’ll be captivated by their evocative songs and poetry! Subsequently, we will admire the stunning graffiti that decorates Colombia's first escalators. Featuring six sections, these escalators rank among the longest of their kind in any neighborhood worldwide.
As we stroll through the area, we will delve into the narratives behind this street art, which speaks not of violence, but of hope and the promising future of Medellin, conveying a profound message of peace from Comuna 13 to a global audience.
Before concluding our journey, we will stop at the Casa de Neón, an enchanting venue that merges paint and light, serving as an ideal backdrop for memorable photographs!
After approximately four hours of exploration, we will return to our original meeting spot.
