On this excursion to the Atuel Canyon and San Rafael, we'll explore a notable natural area of Mendoza.

Atuel Canyon and Valle Grande Trip

We'll pick you up at your hotel in Mendoza at the specified time and travel south for a 3-hour drive of 235 kilometers (146 miles) through the Uco Valley to San Rafael. After a city visit, we'll proceed to the Valle Grande reservoir, where you will have free time for photos, walking along the shore, having lunch on your own, or engaging in optional activities like a raft ride down the Atuel River or a catamaran ride on the Valle Grande Dam Lake.

Next, we'll enter the Atuel Canyon to see various rock formations created by natural forces, including El Lagarto, Los Viejos, Los Monstruos, the Enchanted City, El Mendigo, Los Jardines Colgantes.

We'll then visit the El Nihuil Dam, which creates two artificial lakes for electricity generation. After this, we will drive back to Mendoza, covering 285 kilometers (177 miles) over approximately 3.5 hours, arriving at the hotel 14 to 16 hours after pickup.

Pickup

The tour includes hotel pickup in downtown Mendoza. If your accommodation is more than 2 kilometers from the city center, the guide will coordinate a meeting point.

Itinerary Adjustments

Due to a landslide on part of the Atuel Canyon road, the itinerary will be adjusted until approximately July. We will spend less time in the canyon but will visit the impressive Los Reyunos Dam, which is fed by the Diamante River and forms a 750-hectare (1,853 acres) lake as compensation.
