Savoca and Taormina Day Trip
Your adventure begins at the Messina port, where you will board a bus that will transport you to Savoca, a picturesque medieval city located 300 meters above sea level. During the hour-long journey, you will learn about the significance of this location in the film industry, quickly revealing why Savoca may seem familiar to you!
In 1972, director Francis Ford Coppola chose Savoca as the backdrop for various scenes in his iconic film: The Godfather. As we explore the charming cobblestone streets, we'll pass by the St. Nicolas church, where Michael and Apollonia celebrated their wedding, and make a stop at the famous bar Vitelli, just as depicted in the film!
After bidding farewell to this cinematic village, we will journey onward to Taormina. This historic city boasts breathtaking views of the sea with the Etna volcano standing majestically in the background. Here, you will visit the impressive Greek and Roman theatre along with Corso Umberto, the town’s premier attractions.
You’ll also have some free time to explore numerous street stalls and soak in the vibrant atmosphere of one of Sicily's most beautiful towns. This is the perfect opportunity to indulge in the delicious Sicilian cuisine at one of the many restaurants nearby (not included).
