Day Trip Details

At the indicated time, pickup will be by minibus at the meeting point in Kalambaka for the journey to Meteora, home to the hanging monasteries. The trip lasts approximately 20 minutes, revealing why these monasteries are renowned; they sit atop rocky formations 600 meters up (1,968 feet).

During the tour, stories and facts about Meteora and its monasteries will be shared. Historically, 24 monasteries existed, but today only six are accessible: Great Meteoron, Varlaam, Rousanou, St. Nicholas Anapausas, St. Stephen, and Holy Trinity.

Depending on your chosen day, three monasteries will be visited. Notably, the visit inside these monasteries is not guided, but information will be provided prior to entry. The tour concludes with a return transfer to Kalambaka, lasting a total of 4 hours.

Visit to the Monasteries

During the tour, you will visit the interior of 3 monasteries, subject to availability; some monasteries are closed on certain days. For example, the Great Meteoron Monastery is closed every Tuesday, and if your reservation falls on that day, only the exterior will be visible.
