At the scheduled time, a minibus will pick you up at the meeting point in Kalambaka for the journey to Meteora, home to the iconic hanging monasteries. After a brief 20-minute ride, you'll see the monasteries set atop rocky formations at 600 meters (1,968 feet).

During the tour, stories and facts about Meteora and its monasteries will be shared. This area has historical significance, having been chosen as a filming location for Game of Thrones. Of the original 24 monasteries, only six are currently open for visits: Great Meteoron, Varlaam, Rousanou, St. Nicholas Anapausas, St. Stephen, and Holy Trinity.

We will visit three of these monasteries based on the day’s schedule. Note that the visit inside the monasteries is unguided, but information will be provided before entry. The tour lasts approximately 4 hours, concluding with a return transfer to Kalambaka.

Visit to the Monasteries

During the tour, you will be able to visit the interiors of three monasteries, with some closed on specific days. For example, the Great Meteoron Monastery is closed every Tuesday, and on such days, only the exterior will be viewed. There is no guided tour inside the monasteries, but an audio guide is available for download.
