Day Trip Details

At the specified time, pickup will be by minibus at the meeting point in Kalambaka to begin the journey to Meteora. After a 20-minute ride, you will see the hanging monasteries situated on rocky formations 600 meters up (1,968 feet).

The tour includes explanations about the history and interesting facts regarding Meteora and its monasteries. Notably, it served as a filming location for Game of Thrones, specifically the Eagle's Nest Prison, where Tyrion Lannister was held.

Originally, 24 monasteries existed in Meteora, but only six are currently open for visitors: Great Meteoron, Varlaam, Rousanou, St. Nicholas Anapausas, St. Stephen, and Holy Trinity. Depending on the day, we will visit three of these monasteries. The visit inside is not guided, but information will be provided prior to entering.

The tour concludes with a transfer back to Kalambaka, lasting approximately 4 hours.

Visit to the Monasteries

During the tour, you will visit the interiors of 3 monasteries, contingent on the day's schedule. Note that the Great Meteoron Monastery is closed every Tuesday; if you book for that day, you will admire its exterior.
