Mijas Guided Tour
Our Mijas guided tour will begin by the sculpture of the donkey-taxi. From this location, we'll go up to a modern panoramic public elevator that will allow us to admire the Avenida del Compás and its traditional donkey taxis.
The origin of this curious means of transport is sure to surprise you! We'll also see the Ermita de la Virgen de la Peña, which was excavated in the rock by Mercedarian monks in the 16th century.
The tour will continue past the Plaza de la Constitución to the remains of the ancient Arab wall. As we carry on through the picturesque streets full of whitewashed buildings, we'll reach the main religious monument in Mijas, the Immaculada Concepción church, built on the remains of a mosque from the Andalusian period.
Before descending to the lower part of Mijas, we'll walk through La Muralla Park, whose viewpoints will offer us panoramic views of the Mediterranean coast of the Costa del Sol. On the way back to the town centre, we may attend a public open-air flamenco show that usually takes place next to the shopping streets.
From the shopping area, we'll go to the Plaza de la Libertad and Málaga street, to visit two more symbolic locations in Mijas, the San Sebastian chapel and the CAC Contemporary Art Centre (we recommend visiting it at the end of our tour).
The tour will end at the Plaza de la Virgen de la Peña.
