A Famous Observatory with Links to Mars

The Astronomical Observatory of Brera is a key historical building in Milan's scientific community, originating in the 18th century. The building now serves as the headquarters of the Astronomical Museum of Brera, which exhibits numerous objects relating to astronomy significant to various findings in the field. It was here that discussions of the Mars canals began, first observed by astronomer Giovanni Schiaparelli in 1877.

During the tour, we'll explore the Gallery of Instruments with our guide, who will explain various facts about the objects on display. You'll learn about the uses of a magnetometer, the operation of a spectrograph, and the importance of pendulum clocks in astronomy. The tour lasts for one hour.

Gallery of Instruments + Schiaparelli Dome

If you choose the option that includes a visit to the Schiaparelli Dome, the tour will last a total of 75 minutes, with 30 minutes dedicated to the Gallery of Instruments and the remainder at the dome, home to the Merz telescope, used since the 20th century.
